My Oil Oil Painting of Osho
As I take a re-look at my old painting I am amazed and feel lost in wonder about how it all began twenty years ago. Yes, I was a young college student just beginning to paint portraits, and I was struggling to put the idea and the paint together with my wavering hand. The starting problems were numerous, and I did not know where to begin. In those days Osho was a cult figure for young westerners and Indians. He was worshiped and followed by millions, and his face was visible everywhere in India. The railway stations, magazines, posters, and memorabilia of all kinds made Osho the god of the masses. I was fascinated too, I wanted to capture the flowing thick beard of the godman, it was not easy. Then I ventured into the unknown and made a few strokes with my wavering brush. It worked and the picture reminds me of the first step that I took, and the risk was worth taking.
